When to renew your LA County CCW.
A California CCW permit is valid for 2 years from the date of issue. To avoid a lapse — and the more demanding 16-hour Initial course — you should complete your 8-hour Renewal training and submit your renewal application to your LA County issuing city or LASD before your permit expiration date.
We recommend booking your renewal class 60–90 days before your permit expires. That gives you time to complete the live-fire qualification and the issuing authority's processing window without having a gap in your carry rights.

LA County renewal fees vary by issuing city. Most of the 19 approved cities charge an issuance/processing fee in the $100-$300 range; LASD-issued permits have their own schedule. Psychological evaluation is generally NOT required at renewal in LA County.
